Geektastic is full of funny stories about what it is like to be a geek. At times, I would have to stop reading, in order to get a break from laughing. My favorite story was One of Us by Tracey Lynn. It is about a cheerleader that decides to learn about a few geeky things for her boyfriend. I also loved the comics. The Doctor Who Refrences were awesome. Overall, Geektastic is just amazing.

Housecleaning

There are quite a few people that didn't answer the question in Shiver contest. So, I am extending the contest to August 7th. So those people can answer the questions. This is the only time, I'll do this.

Interview with Kelley Armstong

Kelley Armstrong is married with three children and lives in rural Ontario, Canada. After graduating from the University of Western Ontario with a degree in psychology, she moved on to study computer programming. She is now a full-time writer and parent.
She has written The Otherworlds series, The Darkest Power Series, and Nadia Stafford Series.

1. Before writing for Teens, you were a bestselling author for Adults. What did writing for the young adult readers appeal to you?
It was a couple of things. I had an idea inspired by my second adult novel, Stolen, but it was about supernaturals just coming into their powers, which in my world happens at puberty. So it wouldn't work for an adult series. That idea was in the back of my mind as I was getting email from readers I considered a little too young to be reading my other books! So I decided to give my YA idea a try.

2. All of the main characters in Darkest Powers series have some sort of "power". What "power" would you like the most?
I would love to be a werewolf and experience life in a different form? The secondary characteristics would be cool, too, but those "extras" also make it hard for werewolves to blend, so in a more practical sense, I'd go with spell-casters. Their powers take work to learn, but overall they have fewer drawbacks.　

3. What books can we expect from you in the future?
The next two Otherworld books are Savannah's. She's 21 and finally able to get into trouble without the others to protect her. For the YA, I’m working on the first of the second trilogy, which is set in the same world as the first, but with new characters and a new Edison Group experiment.

4. You have 13 books out, 2 coming in the next year, and a lot of short stories. Where do you get the inspiration for so many books?
Questions like that were so much easier to answer when I first started writing, because I knew exactly where ideas and inspiration came from! Now, with all those books out, I’m influenced by so many sources that it’s a fluid and invisible process. Everything goes into the creative pot and if I sit back and think "where did I get that ingredient from?" I honestly have no idea.

5. What does writing in a series appeal to you?
Writing in a series gives me the chance to develop characters and fantasy worlds beyond what I can do in one book. With each new one, I’m able to try something a little different and tap further into what I’ve already created.
6. What is a normal writing day for you?
A typical writing day starts at about 5:30. I work until I get my kids up, then send them off on the bus at 7:30. 　I usually write all morning and into the early afternoon, then spend the rest of the afternoon doing business stuff. 　I stop at 4 when the kids return, then try to get in another hour or two in the evening. 　On weekends I get caught up on snail mail, email, interviews etc. In summer, like now, it’s more of a mishmash, taking time when I can get it and trying to stay on schedule while enjoying having the kids around.

7. What do you do other then writing, reading, and being an author?
My other hobbies would include cooking, learning, hiking and spending time with my family.

8. Is there anything that you would like to add?

Holly is really awesome and nice on Tenners' chats. The Snowball Effect sounds amazing and I can't wait for it. Plus have you seen the cover?

Coffeehouse Angel by Suzanne Selfors

Katrina works at her grandmother's coffee shop, Anna's Old World Scandinavian Coffeehouse. Since Java Heaven has opened next door, they have lost almost all of their business. Still, Katrina wakes up before school and prepares the coffeehouse her grandmother before school. One morning, she sees a homeless guy in the alley behind the Coffeehouse. She leaves some pastries, a bag of chocolate-covered coffee beans, and a cup of coffee. This small act of kindness turns Katrina's world upside down. The homeless guy turns out to be a real guardian angel, named Malcolm. He can't leave until he grants her deepest desire. Fame and Fortune seem to be the obvious request, but after two failed wishes, Malcolm knows Katrina is hiding something from him. What if Katrina's deepest wish is Malcolm himself?

Coffeehouse Angel is so cute. What I liked most about this book, is the characters and the plot. I loved this book. I could relate to Katrina, so much. I have felt like her, where I am not good at anything. I also found "The Boys" that hung out at the coffeehouse, to be hilarious. The plot was amazing and well written. The setting was also well set for me, Nordby is based on Poulsbo, which is where my mom lives. So, I could picture it really well. It was really original. I loved the humor that was spread through every book. Selfors makes a one of kind book, that is sure to entertain you.

Tatiana Lewis is starting college with her brother Isaac this fall. She will be near her older sister, Bethany too. And her Aunt Ruth will always be around. Right after her eighteen birthday, she has abilities and they have to be kept a secret. She has no clue what would happen if anyone found out. Issac finds out about her abilities and tries to encourage Tatiana to let them manifest. Tatiana decides to continue life as normal as possible. She goes to college and instantly becomes friends with Winter. She is also an outsider and shares Tatiana's love of nature. Still Tatiana isn't able to tell her about her abilities. After tragedy happens, Tatiana accept herself and finds a purpose.
This book was pretty good. I liked how Tatiana wasn't sure of herself and shy. I could relate to her. Isaac was interesting, too. I loved his interest in Mythology. Bethany was awesome too. I really liked Adam, he was so... amazing. The plot was a bit slow, but at the end, I couldn't stop reading it. The message of protecting the environment was a little redundant, but well presented. Behind Every Illusion is very original. I am not sure what to call the creature that Tatiana is. Harner is a great writer too. I would recommend it to anyone that likes faeries or pixies.

An Interview with Elizabeth Scott...

Elizabeth Scott grew up in a town so small it didn't even have a post office, though it did boast an impressive cattle population. She's sold hardware and panty hose and had a memorable three-day stint in the dot-com industry, where she learned that she really didn't want a career burning CDs. She has written Bloom, Perfect You, Stealing Heaven, Living Dead Girl, Something Maybe, and Love You Hate You Miss You. She lives just outside Washington, DC, with her husband; firmly believes you can never own too many books; and would love it if you visited her website.

1. You have said in a few interviews, that you wouldn’t like to write a sequel to a currently published book. Would you ever consider writing a series for any future books?

If an idea hit me that could be turned into a series, and if I could find an interested publisher, then absolutely!

2. What is easiest and hardest for you as a writer?

Easiest: answering emails from readers (LOVE!) and first drafts.

Hardest: getting that first rewrite done (the others come easier after that)

3. What novels are you currently working on?

I've got three books coming out in 2010--in March, Simon Pulse will release The Unwritten Rule, about a girl who falls for her best friend's boyfriend. In June, HarperCollins will be releasing Miracle, which is about a girl who survives a plane crash. And then, in the fall (I don't have an exact date yet), Dutton will be releasing Grace, which is about a girl who is a suicide bomber.

4. What is a normal writing day for you?

I get up around 7, answer emails, write my blog entry if I'm doing one for the day, and then take care of other things like addressing packages, going to the post office, updating my website--that sort of thing. Then, if I'm lucky, I have time to exercise. If I don't, I dive right into whatever edits/copy edits/page proofs are waiting for me. And then I write until my husband gets home from work.

5. Which one of your characters do you relate to the most?

I can relate to all of them in some way--I have to because otherwise I wouldn't be able to write about them.

6. What are some of your favorite YA books? Currently and as a teen?

I think there's so many great young adult novels out there right now-- we're really living in a golden age. But two novels that I don't think get nearly enough love are She's So Money by Cherry Cheva and Fresh Off The Boat by Melissa de la Cruz. When I was a teen, young adult novels weren't anything like they are now--I read a lot of Judy Blume when I was younger, but had moved on to adult books by the time I was a teenager.

7. Other then writing and reading, what activities or hobbies do you enjoy?

I really and truly like watching tv. I know some authors are not for it, but I like it! I also enjoy spending time with my husband and dogs and my friends.

8. If you could go to any era in time, what time frame would you choose?

I have to say, I'm pretty happy right where I am :-)

9. Is there anything that you would like to add?

Yay! New Bookshelf

I have needed a bookshelf, since about a week after my bookshelf. My books are doublestacked and there is a stack on the top that I have to get a stool to reach any of the books on there. I think if there was an earthquake, I would be found under a pile of books like three days later. Anyways, CSN Office Furniture contacted me recently about reviewing any piece of furniture and telling you about my experience on their site. Anyways, I found the site easy to navigate. You have a choice of over a thousand bookshelves. That beats Walmart and Ikea's options big time. The bookshelfs look very pretty. You can sort them by the price, brand, width, depth, hieght, number of shelves, type, style, finish, features, and consturction in order to get the perfect bookshelf for you. They have a lot of other awesome Office furniture.Like I love this bookshelf, because I can imagine all the books that I can stuff into it. It isn't my style, but there are tons on the site that are. Anyways, I will be picking a bookshelf from here and reviewing it. So, check back and see which one that I picked, and also checked out the site for awesome furniture. A lot of it is on sale and has free shipping!

Waiting on Wednesday (Week Seventeen)

This books looks really cute. Like a fun little read. The cover is cute. I am excited for this book.

Olivia is going to Yale University for an art summer camp. After walking in on her dad with of his grad student, Olivia did her research and she has decided to write a musical called Castration Celebration. Olivia is influenced by her new friends, especially Max.

Max is a ladies man and wants to be together with Olivia. Max is totally not Olivia's type. Olivia and Max might just have something, but will Olivia let her emotions through? Will the play and real life end the same way?

I love Castration Celebration. I read it in about three hours. It was so funny and I could not stop laughing. This book didn't tip toe around sex. It jumped in to sex and it wasn't vulgar or trashy. It was the truth and I really respected Wizner for doing that. I also really like Olivia, I related to her at times and her development as a character was good. I really liked how the plot went between the main narrative and the script for the play. The play was hilarious and I loved the songs and dialogue in it. The writing was also good and I really like this book.

Wide Awake by David Levithan

Abe Stein has been elected as the first gay Jewish President of the United States of America. It was a victory by only the state of Kansas. Duncan Weiss and his boyfriend Jimmy are more then excited. They have been volunteering at the local Stein headquarters, since the election. The morning after the election, questions arise about the handling of the ballots in Kansas from the opposition.
Stein ask his supporters to come to Kansas, so that his opponents can see the faces of the people that they are going to deceive. Duncan is not sure, if he should go or if he should stay. The thought of staying drives a wedge between him and Jimmy. Duncan must choose between staying home and playing it safe or stand up for what he believes in.
Duncan is a relatable character. The plot was interested, but I love political aspect. Wide Awake is a thought provoking book, about ideals in our world. In Wide Awake, their are stores for donating to charities and the whole world has medical care. Even though this book is fiction it could happen. Levithan's message is one of hope.

Lisa Mantchev Signing

So I went to the Lisa Mantchev Signing on Thursday. It was super awesome. When I came in there, people were fighting over the first edition.
Here is Lisa's Faerie child. She was really cute. She also handed out Lisa's Backstage Pass bracelets, which are awesome.

Liz Gallagher was there too. Her book, The Opposite of Invisible just came out in paperback and it is an amazing book.

Quick Question...

I have a kidney infection and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on diet or lowering the pain. I can't have the usual medicine, because it counter acts one of mine. Please do not mention Cranberry Juice, because I have drank two containers of it. Anyone that has any advice, I will be so thankful.
Anyways, I am going to try to get the Lisa Mantchev event posted later today. It depends on how I feel and such. Also any bloggers/authors in the Seattle area, leave a comment. I am planning something sekrit.

Soulstice by Simon Holt

Reggie discovered the Vours about six months ago. Her brother was taken by them. She learned to control her fear in order to save Henry from the fear scape.

Now the Vour are after her in Arron and her. Henry is having nightmares from the time spent in the Fear scape. Until one night, an unexpected visitor comes and brings her nightmares in her reality.

To be Honest, I wasn't a fan of Devouring, but Soulstice was amazing and thrilling. It was almost impossible to put down and a page turner. The characters were more developed and just amazing. The ending was so suspenseful that I can't wait for the next one. I highly recommend this series now.

Waiting on Wednesday (Week Sixteen)

Title: Bleeding Violet

Bleed Violet sound amazing. Like Paranormal with mystery. Dia is a tenner. I can't wait for this book. I love the cover. It is so pretty.

Sprout by Dale Peck

How many secrets can you hide in plain sight?
Sprout Bradford has a secret. It’s not what you think—he’ll tell you he’s gay. He’ll tell you about his dad’s drinking and his mother’s death. The green fingerprints everywhere tell you when he last dyed his hair. But neither the reader nor Sprout are prepared for what happens when Sprout suddenly finds he’s had a more profound effect on the lives around him than he ever thought possible. Sprout is both hilarious and gripping; a story of one boy at odds with the expected.

Sprout was funny and entertaining. His insights reminded me a lot of Jessica Darling. He was an amazing character. I loved how he randomly spilled secrets. Sadly there wasn't a lot of plot in Sprout. All of the subplots are happening in the past. The only plot is the relationship between Ty and Sprout, which was kind of weak. Dale Peck was an amazing writer. He was very descriptive and interesting. Sprout was original and a funny read with strong characters.

Beautiful World by Anastasia Holling

Then she meets Courtney Moore, the Upper East Side heiress who needs a friend as badly as Amelia wants to be that friend, and suddenly a world of opportunity opens up for her. Parties, shopping, her own wing in the Moore mansion—it's all hers for the taking, as long as she can keep her real life a secret, especially from the new acquaintance who's been asking way too many questions. Can Amelia stay one step ahead of the doubters to secure her place in the beautiful world?

I didn't like Beautiful World by Anastasia Holling. It was the story of a poor girl that wanted to rich and will do anything to get there. Amelia was whining every three second. She thought that deserved better, when her life wasn't horrible. She also kept on mooching off other people for things that she didn't need. The other main girl, Courtney kept on trusting Amelia, when she had no reason to. I have no clue how I made it through this book, but I really didn't like it.

Ever was more likable to me in this book. I think the fact that she wasn't swooning over Damen as much. I liked seeing Damen's flaws, it made him more understandable. Roman was crazy, but he was also very smart. I liked his character even though he isn't the good guy. The plot wasn't as fast paced as Evermore, but Blue Moon was still impossible to put down. The emotions are everywhere. Ever's story feels like someone that you know is telling you. For example, giving her two impossible choices that either way, she'll lose. Noël is an amazing writer, with a lot of details and realistic characters. The Immortal series is a must read for anyone that loves a supernatural story. I highly suggest checking this book soon.

The Chosen One by Carol Lnych Williams

Kyra has grown up in an isolated community without questioning the fact that her father has three wives and twenty brothers and sisters, with two more on the way. Kyra is not allowed to read anything but the bible, watch Television, go to the movies, or go on a date. Despite these strict rules, she secretly visits the Ironton County Mobile Library on Wheels or the meeting with Joshua in the middle of the night. This is the boy that she hopes to choose for herself instead of having a man chosen for her. Though her dreams are crushed, when the Prophet decreed that she must marry her sixty year old uncle at only the age of thirteen years old. He already has six other wives. Kyra must decide between a life of violence in the community or a life without her family.
The Chosen One is a one of a kind book. It is gripping, while dealing with a topic that was in the news, recently. From what I know, the polygamous sects were well portrayed. Force Marriages, Striping a man of his wives and children if he didn't follow the leader, and much more is a common feature. Kyra is strong with a lot of heart and independent. It is impossible to forget her story. Her love for her family is touching and authentic. The Chosen One is also a page turner. Williams also made it, very beautifully written. I really hope that you read this.

Jason Blake has autistic spectrum disorder. He has daily and lifelong struggles to exist in a normal world. The only place that he feels himself is online on Storyboard, , where he post the many short stories that he wrote. It is there that he meets Rebecca. Though they have a common interest in writing, Jason worries about the consequences, if they ever meet in person. Jason also feels that if he doesn't meet Rebecca, there is no chance of a real relationship. But when Jason's parents surprise him with a trip to the Storyboard national conference and when he finds out that Rebecca will also be attending, Jason is terrified. How will Rebecca feel about him when she meets him, when she learns that behind those lovely words on her computer screen is a very different boy from the one she might have imagined?

The look at autism was both interesting and realistic. It was very original and eye opening book. Jason's worry about fitting in was well expressed and very relatable. Jason's friendship with Rebecca was sweet and cute. Anything by Typical is a one of a kind book and worth definitely worth reading.

Waiting on Wednesday (Week Sixteen)

I love the cover of this book, and I swear I have been seeing it around a lot. It sounds amazing. I love supernatural books. Plus Jen Nadol is a tenner, which makes her instantly awesome. I want to read this book so much.

Academy 7 by Anne Osterlund

Their safety depends on them staying apart, but they are drawn to each other. Even as unknown forces conspire to separate them. They turn into friends and later a romance. Now that their lives and hearts are at stake, they must unite. So that they can uncover the biggest secret imaginable... a secret bigger then the universe.

Aerin was interesting and very clever. She was also really strong, like she beaten Dane at wrestling on her first day. Dane was really fierce in a good way. He was also protective and nice to Aerin from the start. The plot was amazing! It was action packed with the perfect amount of romance. It was really original, and I hope Osterlund writes about this place again. It was amazing writing that was very descriptive. Osterlund make another great romantic mystery, that is awesome!

Love You Hate You Miss You by Elizabeth Scott

It has been seventy-five days, since the accident that caused the death of her best friend, Julia. Amy has been at Pinewood, she has been recovering from Alcohol dependency and trying to recover from the absence of the only person that ever completely understood her. When she gets out of rehab, she is asked by her shrink to keep a journal. Amy writes letters to Julia. She must deal with her past in order to realize what really happened and that it wasn't all her fault.

I love Elizabeth Scott. Her writing can light and fluffy or serious and thought provoking. This book was definitely on the latter of the two. Amy's guilt, regret, loneliness, and resentment were really realistic and common in anyone something similar happened. The letters to Julia and flashbacks were full of emotion and well done. Scott's writing fit the book very well. The focus of friendship with both it's positive and the adverse side effects of it. It also displayed all of the awkwardness of making friends and all the judgement that can be falsely is made. Scott makes a unique, thoughtful, and emotional novel. Love You Hate You Miss You by Elizabeth Scott is a must read.

Interview with Leah Clifford

Leah Clifford currently lives in Ohio with her (mostly) blind cat and her roommate, who she's been friends with since sixth grade. In her spare time she loves to travel and has been known to drive over two hours to get kickass quesadillas. So far for jobs she's sold corn at a roadside stand, been a pizza delivery girl, a camp counselor, an extreme cave tour guide, a flight attendant, a waitress (x3), a grocery store clerk and a writer. Out of all of them, writing has been the most fun. She's pretty sure she's gonna stick with it. Here is her twitter

1. What is Reapers about?
This is the query letter I sent out to agents. Right now I'm in the process of doing a rewrite, so the title will be changing but other than that it's pretty much the same.

2. What is the hardest part of getting published?
Edits. Writing the book is only the beginning. There are usually two edits I do myself before I send it out to my critique partners. Then I edit after I get it back from them. If you land an agent, he/she will most likely want some tweaks. Edits suck, but in the end they're worth it because they make the book better.

3. Where do you find your inspiration for writing?
A lot of my inspiration comes from the teachers I've had over the years. I really believe that a good teacher can make all the difference.

4. What is a normal writing day for you?
For me, I have two kinds of writing days. If I'm working my day job, a usual shift runs from 2pm til 10pm, which means I settle down for writing time at about 11pm. Usually I try to work until at least 2am. Sometimes later. If it's a day off, I try to spend half the day writing. Of course though, all this time isn't spent writing. Sometimes I use a day for research. When I'm starting a new project, I'll spend a few days looking for music. I use a "soundtrack" when I'm writing to keep my head in the story. When I really get into a story though, I tend to go full throttle, which means I do little else but write. Everyone's different though.

5. What odd jobs on the road to getting published?
Honestly, writing is the oddest job I've had on the road to getting published! Think about it. The hours are crazy. You work alone, most times late at night or early in the morning, and you don't get paid. But for the stranger of my "normal" jobs? I've worked as a flight attendant, an extreme cave tour guide and when I was younger I sold corn at a roadside stand. Right now, my book is in submission and hasn't sold, so I'm working at a grocery store.

6. If you could be in any time era, which one would you choose?
I love this question! I'm gonna have to go with the Wild West. People back then had to be tough, and they are just fascinating to me. All that land was up for grabs and you could pretty much just claim it, build a cabin and start a new life. I'm sure I'm romanticising it JUST a bit - I mean, sure, cute cowboys and all but they couldn't have smelled very good - but it seemed like every day was an adventure.
