Samara Taylor used to believe in miracles. She used to believe in a lot of things. As a pastor's kid, it's hard not to buy in to the idea of the perfect family, a loving God, and amazing grace. But lately, Sam has a lot of reason to doubt. Her mother lands in rehab after a DUI and her father seems more interested in his congregation than his family. When a young girl in her small town is kidnapped, the local tragedy overlaps with Sam's personal one, and the already-worn thread of faith holding her together begins to unravel. In her third novel, acclaimed author Sara Zarr examines the coexistence of affliction and hope, and what happens when everything you thought you believed---about God, about your family, about yourself---is transformed.

If I wrecked my car it would spin my life out of control, simply because I need it for my job as well as for student teaching, which my graduating college hinges on. OMG idk what I would do if that happened.

Since the beginning of this year, 3 of my family members health have went completely down hill. Because of this big changes happened with my family and we're all still trying to figure out how to cope with them. But then again it's better than the alternative which is loosing any of them.

the event that could spin my life out of controll would be if one of my family members died. i could handle just about anything else--loosing our family business, having to move across the country (again), or even my close friend leaving me (not wanting to talk to me anymore.). but if one of my family members, or my one friend, died... i think i'd probably die too.
hey this is alyssa. i have been waiting to get this book. i have done everything i can to get this i have +1(commented) and everything i have had to endure hours of yelling from my little cousins. nothing works but i CANT WAIT for this book to come out!!

Hi Sarah :) Once Was Lost sounds great, please count me in to win and thank you very much!
While I absolutely agree with the majority of the other posters a/k/a the death of a loved one would be horrific and definitely spin my life out of control - there are different things that I can only imagine that, bizarre as they sound, would also cause an out of control spin but in a different way. Such as:
If I suddenly won the lottery (everything would be changed for good AND bad, I suspect)
If God were to ACTUALLY literally answer/vocally respond to one of my prayers! Can you imagine? We always pray, never sanely imagining for a moment we could hear his voice in return. A person would doubt their sanity, yet it could be a hugely life-changing moment.

There are so many things that could send my life careening out of control that it's almost scary to think about. One particular thing that could send it reeling would be the loss of a friend. I'm not talking about death, I'm just thinking of what could happen if a person just stopped being my friend. That would hurt, badly.

I really hate to think about what could happen to make my life spin out of control. But, out of whose control? Control over my own life is an illusion anyway, ultimately.

I already had an event that changed mine and my family's life. March 20, 2007 I fell and broke my foot and ended up totally disabled with a nerve disorder called RSD. It stinks to go from being a busy mom and teacher to being wheelchair bound and disabled. I guess you have to take the good with the bad. I am blessed to have an awesome family who are with me every step of he way.

The death of one of my close relatives. Ex: a parent, my sister, my neice, or nephew.
ReplyDeleteAlso, suffering a serious injury to either of my hands or developing RA like my cousin who is only two days younger than me. I couldn't be a vet. It would be hard to do my photography. It'd also be extremely difficult to write. My hugest passions depend on the use of my hands. Of course I've already decided to be a historian if something like that should happen. Or maybe an antique appraiser. Gotta have a back up plan.

ReplyDeleteOf course the death of anyone I'm close to in the family would literally tear me up into pieces. But what would really take the cake is me losing a part of my body. Not like hair or those types of things. But like my hands, eyesight or ability to think. I rely on my hands to type, eyesight to be able to see the love and the beauty of my surroundings and ability to think because I want to be able to decide things by myself. :)
